About the West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon
Western People, Mayo.ie and the Mayo Sports Partnership are proud to formally launch the 2021 Women’s 10K Your Way, the 12th annual staing of the West of Ireland Mini-Marathon which will be held virtually for the second year running on the May bank Holiday Sunday.
Following on from the resounding success of last year’s virtual 10k, which saw over 1,000 participants around Mayo, Ireland and the world run together to raise over €40,000 for charity, this year’s 10k will again be open to women from the four corners of the globe.
Your Way, Your Hero, Your Say
The theme of this year’s Mini-Marathon is ‘Your Way, Your Hero, Your Say.’ You can run the 10k any way you see fit, whether on your own or as part of a group, against the clock to improve your personal best or as a leisurely afternoon stroll. Younger runners are once again encouraged to take part in the ever-popular Mini-Mini while pupils in secondary schools around Mayo will once again be participating in the ‘It’s For Girls’ initiative, which aims to increase participation in sport amongst girls.
Why We Need Your Support
Cancer won’t stop during the coronavirus pandemic and neither will we. With each day we spend at home, during these challenging times, another family in Ireland will receive the devastating news that their child has cancer.
Children are going through aggressive cancer treatment and their families face additional worries about delays in treatment plans and further separation due to isolation restrictions.
Families tell us that they couldn’t cope without Cancer Fund for Children’s support and demand for therapeutic short breaks is only going to increase throughout this crisis.
We need to make sure that we can continue to provide a lifeline of therapeutic short breaks and emotional support to children and families beyond this crisis whilst we raise funds to build new therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Co Mayo.
To make our plans a reality, and to continue supporting families throughout Ireland, we need YOU! So come on ladies, register today, and together let’s make this happen!
