On the 29th of May, Elisha Lavelle and Una Byrne took on the daunting task of cycling over 400km from the East Coast in Co. Dublin to the West Coast in Co. Mayo.

Over the seven days these wonderful women pedalled the breadth of the country gathering great support along the way. With many following their journey on social media, they have raised over €11,000 for Cancer Fund for Children.

The Co. Mayo natives embarked on this challenge to help support the building of a new Daisy Lodge therapeutic short break centre in their home county. €12.5 million is needed to make our Daisy Lodge dream a reality, allowing us to help more children and families in Ireland. Daisy Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo will be the first therapeutic short break facility of its kind in Ireland and will provide much needed breaks to families who have a child living with cancer.

Explaining why they wanted to support Cancer Fund for Children Elisha said:

“Una and I wanted to raise awareness for Cancer Fund for Children, to make sure that more people in Ireland know about the amazing work that the charity does in supporting children and young people who face a cancer diagnosis throughout Ireland”.

Belinda Kearns, Cancer Fund for Children’s Relationship Development Manager congratulated Elisha and Una:

“We are so proud of Elisha and Una, and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts and commitment throughout the cycle and their fundraising. They are true role models and I hope they have inspired more people throughout other counties in Ireland to get behind Cancer Fund for Children and the work that we do.”
